Have you seen The Incredibles? Great flick! It’s a Disney movie. Animated. There’s one scene in there where Mr. Incredible gets fed up with everyone glorifying mediocrity.
Now this movie is several years old, but I still remember vividly how that made me feel when I heard him say that. It struck a nerve in me so deep it made me change how I looked at life from that point on. Sure. It was a line in a movie. But don’t we do that for real? In the real world? Glorify mediocrity?
Think about it…
>> Our society cushions our lack of personal responsibility. That’s Mediocrity.
>> We smile and tell our kids they better not get grades below a “C” in school. That’s Mediocrity. (It’s actually perpetuating mediocrity.)
>> There’s ridicule for those who are brave enough to take a risk to pursue their dream because others are too chicken to take the chance. The ridicule is caused by others Mediocrity.
>> We talk about bettering ourselves while we gorge our guts contiunously with the feast in front of us… and we were full 15 minutes ago. That’s Mediocre self control (at best).
This list could go on and on and on. But you get the point.
So here we are in 2008. This is not time for resolutions. This is not time for goal setting. This is not time for dropping a few pounds by March.
This is a WAKE-UP call. This is a call to STOP the mediocrity in ALL areas of your life. It’s time to take a desperate evaluation of your body, soul and mind… with a pen and paper. Take personal responsibility for your life and shoot for the stars. Medocrity has no place anymore. “Getting by” is a thing of the past. Greatness is your God-Given Gift. It always has been. Now it’s time to take ownership.
It’s time to make this YOUR YEAR of GREATNESS!
Here’s to a GREAT ‘08!
God bless,
Mark
